EDUCATION
The ArtHouse Jersey Education Programme works collaboratively with teachers and young people across the Island. We support trained, professional artists to create art experiences that enrich the curriculum as well as providing opportunities to access art outside of school.
Nurturing the development of young people from primary school level has a long term impact on the value and importance we place on art in society and on developing a happy, healthy and culturally engaged island community.
Some of our work is delivered in partnership with Children, Young People, Education and Skills (CYPES) and our programme offers opportunities for artists to develop and learn new skills as educators. Our current projects being delivered across different partnerships include Making Art Partnerships in Schools (MAPS) and Saturday Art School. In 2023 alone we worked with 26 schools across the Island, engaging 6,568 students.
We welcome student groups to visit our exhibitions, events and artist talks throughout the year. We recommend that teachers make a site visit in advance and contact anna@arts.je to help co-ordinate your trip and answer any accessibility queries.
Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults and requires all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Saturday Art School
Supported by Standard Chartered
Saturday Art School is a free extra-curricular course available to secondary school students. The workshops run during the Autumn, Spring and Summer term and are designed collaboratively by Artist Educators incorporating diverse skills into a dynamic programme for young people. The course is experimental, uses mixed media and develops independent learners who take the tools they are given on their own creative journey.
Making Art in Partnership with Schools (MAPS)
MAPS (Making Art in Partnership with Schools) is an initiative that is delivered across Island schools. Teachers and artists have worked collaboratively to develop a unique, jointly planned, creative art curriculum project to achieve excellent outcomes for pupils of all ages. Professional artists have been commissioned to work with local schools during the Autumn term and each artist has a strong foundation in art & design and a commitment to their own creative practice which allows them to share skills, knowledge and a passion for the visual arts in the classroom.
There have been exhibitions of work made by pupils in 2023 (ArtHouse Jersey at Capital House) and 2024 (Greve de Lecq Barracks) with another one coming up in March 2025!

You, Me the Woodland & The Sea
In the summer we host a series of three-day art based workshops for children aged 8 and 11 the work of which culminates in a weekend exhibition at Greve de Lecq Barracks. We work closely with CYPES and St Helier based primary schools to ensure that the opportunity is extended to children who stand to benefit the most from participating.
These workshops have been designed to encourage students to build confidence, harness their imaginations and work as a team to create pieces of art that they can be proud of and share with their family and the wider community.
