DEVELOPMENT GRANTS

We provide financial assistance to local artists of any discipline to create new work or for the development of their own creative process as they pursue a career in the arts.

HOW TO APPLY

Before you begin your application please carefully read these guidelines. They will give you helpful guidance on the type of information to be included and should also answer questions about the assessment process and criteria we use to make our decisions.

Having read the guidelines fill in an online form. Please complete the Small Development Grant application form for awards below £1,500 for which there is a shorter application process and the Large Development Grant application form for awards between £1,500 and £5,000. Projects can have budgets larger than £5,000 but we would need to understand how the remaining money is being sourced. You can email us to request an editable PDF or Word document. If you have any questions about our guidelines and/or application form please do get in touch with Rosanna who will be happy to assist you. Ahead of applying we strongly advise that you arrange a 30 minute phone call with her to ensure that you are providing all the necessary information.

DEADLINES

We review all applications on a quarterly basis. Please see the list of dates below for quarterly submission deadlines:

  • 1 August

  • 1 November

Due to the time it takes for applications to be processed please try to ensure there is at least three months between the application deadline and when your activity begins.

The total amount available for the 2024 is £55,000.

Here are a few examples of artists who have been awarded grants in the past.

  • Jonny Labey

    SHORT FILM

    Jonny Labey is a freelance actor who was awarded a grant towards the creation of his short film ‘We all scream'. This project will be his debut as a film director and is inspired- by real events, focusing on the themes of mental health, community, toxic masculinity and hope.

  • Phoebe Over and Axon Bower

    MUSIC VIDEO

    Phoebe Over and Axon Bower applied for a grant to create a music video for their new single ‘Bus’. They are currently travelling Australia and the narrative of the music video will use the backdrop of their journey.

  • Jonny Danciger

    IMMERSIVE SOUND ART INSTALLATION

    Jonny Danciger is an is an interdisciplinary theatre-maker who applied for funding for the research and development phase of a new project. This involved creating an immersive sound art installation built to exploit sensory phenomena through bone conduction.

  • Anaya Kogi

    SKILLS DEVELOPMENT- FASHION

    Anaya Kogi is a student studying textiles. Her ambition is to work in the fashion industry and she is passionate about creativity and innovation. Anaya was awarded funding as a contribution to undertake a fashion design course in Florence.

  • Sophie Martin

    THEATRE IN EDUCATION PLAY

    Sophie Martin is a singer and an actor with a degree in Musical Theatre. She is also a secondary school English and Drama teacher. She was awarded funding to produce, write and perform a theatre in education piece in collaboration with the local Jersey coastguards.

  • Timothy Renouf

    SKILLS DEVELOPMENT- SCREENWRITING COURSE

    Timothy Renouf is a Jersey born actor who has worked on various projects for Television, Film and Theatre. He was awarded a grant in order to further his skills as a writer by undertaking a screenwriting course to produce a TV pilot to pitch to production companies.

  • Gemma Daubeney

    THEATRE- EDINBURGH FRINGE

    Gemma Daubeney is a performer and creative with ‘Maybe You Like It’ theatre company. She was awarded funding to support taking the show ‘Pleading Stupidity’ to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023.

  • Lish Kwizera

    MUSIC EP

    Lish Kwizera is a songwriter, performing artist and producer with an eclectic music taste. He was awarded funding for the musical engineering of his new five song EP ‘Love or Hate’ which combines a mix of different music styles from R&B/Soul, House, Hip Hop to Dance.

  • Marianne Adams

    DEBUT NOVEL

    Marianne Adams is an English teacher and novelist who was awarded funding to support the process of self publishing of her debut novel and achieve her aim of becoming a published writer. The grant will support getting a professional edit of the novel before publication.

  • Megan Langlois

    MUSIC EP

    Megan Langlois is a singer and songwriter who performed at Glastonbury festival in 2023. She was awarded funding to launch her first EP and have a set of original songs professionally recorded.

  • Rebecca Coley

    SHORT FILM

    Rebecca Coley was awarded funding towards the production of her short film ‘Bunkers’. The aim of this film was to create a beautiful and informative piece about the history of surfing in Jersey over the last 100 years. This film was screened to a large audience at the 2022 Jersey Surf Film Festival.

  • Jonathan Socrates

    POST-PRODUCTION

    Jonathan Socrates received funding for the post-production of a short film he created during lockdown. This was shot in Jersey with two local actors. We supported the final stages of editing the film as well as recording, mixing and mastering the soundtrack.

  • Rachel Ara

    SKILLS DEVELOPMENT- CINEMA 4D

    Rachel Ara is a conceptual artist who was awarded funding to develop her skills in Cinema 4D software for creating new film-based work. She will be utilising the software to support future projects such as sculptural maquettes.

  • Tom Pope

    PHOTOGRAPHIC PERFORMANCE

    Tom Pope used our support to hold and live-stream an experimental photographic performance which saw the physical destruction of 16 professional photographs by Martin Parr. The performance reached a direct audience of 460 with extended reach through social media discussion groups.

  • Adam Perchard

    SOLO TOUR- BATHTIME FOR BRITAIN

    Adam Perchard is a writer and performer who makes multidisciplinary work that flits between cabaret, comedy, theatre, opera, and performance art to think about queerness, gender identity, and history. This grant went towards touring Adam’s solo work ‘Bathtime for Britain’.

  • Josh Shea

    SHORT FILM

    Joshua Shea is an aspiring actor & filmmaker who strives to write and create work that changes people's perceptions. He received funding for his short film ‘Before The Tide Comes In’, a dark comedy exploring the themes of mortality, acceptance and how we judge people from their outward appearance.

  • William Romeril

    SKILLS DEVELOPMENT- BRONZE CASTING

    William Romeril used our support to fund skills development and an expansion into a new medium, bronze casting. The funding has allowed Will to successfully extend his portfolio and become self-sufficient in bronze production as well as displaying his initial bronze artworks at an exhibition.

  • Aine Daly

    MUSIC VIDEO

    Aine Daly and Jordon Cox received financial support to produce an award-winning music video, hiring a water tank film studio and an experienced production team. The video has received over 5,500 views to-date on YouTube as well as nominations for best music video at various film festivals.
