LIVELY & FRIENDLY FREE ART COURSES FOR JERSEY’S SECONDARY SCHOOL CHILDREN RETURN THIS AUTUMN
ArtHouse Jersey and Standard Chartered are delighted to be partnering in the delivery of Saturday Art School, a free extra-curricular course available to secondary school students across the Island. With £10,000 sponsorship from Standard Chartered, these lively and friendly workshops run in six week blocks on Saturday mornings and are delivered in partnership with ArtHouse Jersey, CYPES (Children, Young People, Education and Skills) and local artists. Available to all students in the Island, the next round of workshops is due to start in early October and will take place at Jersey College for Girls. The subsequent courses will be delivered in the new year.
The Saturday Art School workshops are designed collaboratively, bringing together a range of diverse skills to form a dynamic program for students aged 11 to 16 years old. The course is experimental, uses mixed media, aims to teach new skills and develop independent learners who take the tools they are given on their own creative journey.
The sessions are relaxed and sociable giving the opportunity for young people from different schools (both public and private) to come together, make new friends and form a new community. The activities planned incorporate both individual and collaborative tasks to encourage new ways of working. Each session starts with an informal breakfast and provides opportunities to socialise throughout. Young people interested in applying for a place on the course are encouraged to reach out to their school art teacher who will be able to support with the application paperwork and advise on future course dates.
This is the second art project for young people that ArtHouse Jersey has partnered with Standard Chartered with , following their generous sponsorship of last year’s Standard Chartered Student Art Competition. These courses are not not only for those who consider themselves gifted in art, but any young person who wishes to explore the joy of creativity while having a good dose of messy weekend fun!”
