Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September 2024 from 10am to 5pm at Greve de Lecq Barracks

We welcome the latest in our Pop Up art exhibition series next weekend, this time a joint show with artists Gigi Cooke, Freya Rabet and Lucinda Wakeham. ‘Natural Habitats’ will take place at Greve de Lecq Barracks on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September 2024 from 10am to 5pm both days. The Pop Up exhibition programme provides local artists with a space to showcase their work and offers the opportunity for people to meet the artists and perhaps purchase something special.

Gigi Cooke is a furniture and product designer, who focuses on creating furniture with a lasting impact that resonates with users who share a commitment to sustainability. Freya Rabet is a fashion designer founding her namesake label in 2021 - Freya Simonne. She is committed to exclusively using fabrics that already exist showcasing the potential of reuse and upcycling in all of her work. Her pieces in this exhibition will centre around the idea of combining her signature fashion pieces with other soft furnishings. Lucinda Wakeham is a potter, working from her home studio. She will be presenting a series of wheel thrown forms influenced by traditional Chinese and Korean ceramics. Her latest work focuses on Raku, an exciting and ancient firing technique that delivers unique and often unpredictable results.

Gigi Cooke said “As a designer, my passion lies in exploring materiality and processes. I am driven by a philosophy that centres on elevating human interaction through sensitive design. While wanting to create furniture that combines function and style but with sustainable credentials that live up to those claims. Growing up in Jersey, sowed the seed for that sustainable mindset; Jersey is truly beautiful with rich biodiversity, which not only provides inspiration for my designs but also instils in me a fire to create products that are sensitive to how we live and that limit our impact on the planet.”

Freya Rabet said “After working in the industry as a fashion designer for almost 10 years I was burnt out and exhausted. Having grown up in Jersey my love of nature was instilled from a young age and so I suppose it was always going to be the case that ultimately I would dedicate my work to protecting it. Crafting the future of fashion from fabrics of the past, I want to inspire people to see the value in the things they already own and reimagine them in new ways. By exclusively using vintage textiles, I will be protecting mother natures' finite resources whilst creating beautiful one of a kind forever pieces. I can’t wait to showcase this in a brand new way through the exhibition and hopefully reach a new audience.”

Lucinda Wakeham said “ArtHouse Jersey Pop Up exhibitions provide valuable opportunities for artists and makers to share their work with a diverse audience, so I am thrilled to be working with the very talented Gigi and Freya to bring ‘Natural Habitats’ to Greve de Lecq.”

The ArtHouse Jersey Pop Up with Gigi Cooke, Freya Rabet and Lucinda Wakeham Kelly will take place at Greve de Lecq Barracks on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September 2024 between 10am and 5pm both days.
