ArtHouse Jersey publishes plans for a packed programme of Art in 2021
ArtHouse Jersey is delighted to announce the release of ‘ArtHouse Jersey: A taste of 2021’. The programme overview in both booklet and digital form shares the charity’s plans for a busy year ahead full of events, one-off projects, community art initiatives and groundbreaking exhibitions for the Island. It can be read in full here or by picking up a physical copy from Bean Around The World in St Helier.
The dynamic programme includes ArtHouse Jersey’s flagship project for 2021 ‘Skipton Big Ideas’. Taking place in October, this is a mammoth interdisciplinary exhibition inviting local and international artists, architects & designers to collaborate in creating three dimensional art. This is an installation exhibition on a scale and level of ambition unlike Jersey has ever seen before. ArtHouse Jersey will be transforming the already reverential interior and grounds of the St. Helier Town Church into a bespoke gallery featuring sculpture, light, augmented reality, sound and interactive installations. Expect pieces that you can step inside of, walk through, play with and that perhaps make you feel provoked, inspired, challenged and even enlightened. The exhibition will be open to all and free to attend thanks to the generous sponsorship of Skipton International.
Springtime welcomes the launch of Roaming Soundtrack. Celebrated DJ and festival promoter Rob Da Bank (creator of BESTIVAL) has been commissioned by ArtHouse Jersey to curate a soundtrack of up to six pieces of music written by a variety of established music and spoken-word artists to accompany iconic Jersey vistas. You’ll be invited to take a magical, bespoke audio journey around some of the Island’s most iconic, beautiful locations, while immersing yourself in stunning nature and beautiful sounds of celebrated, quality musicians.
The ArtHouse Jersey Pop Up series will continue throughout 2021. The weekend long exhibitions offer local artists the chance to exhibit their work for free at the ArtHouse Jersey Studios at Greve de Lecq Barracks. Artists showcasing their work include Jodie Carney, Nick Partlett, Bianca Paddidar, Ariel Luke, Will Lakeman, La Folie Collective, Conor Daly and Danny Booth. This is also a chance for the public to come along and meet the artists, talk to them about their work and gain an insight into their working practices.
A key focus for ArtHouse Jersey is to make the arts accessible to all, but how can you create memorable and magical experiences for people who are not able to leave their homes? The only answer can be to deliver the art to their door ...ArtHouse Jersey has commissioned Thomas Buckley (the lead artist behind ‘Society of Cocktails’ and an associate of the Royal Shakespeare Company) to design bespoke ‘Memory Boxes’ that can be delivered directly to people’s homes and ignite all of a recipient’s senses to bring a story to life. Whilst they will cleverly employ technology through sound, projection and augmented reality, they will feel tactile and will be simple to use. Each will contain packages with scents and objects to add a visceral connection to the narrative being told.
Overall, ArtHouse Jersey exists to serve the Island’s community. Throughout the year they will continue to work closely with schools through The Genesis Education Programme, focusing on equality of access and ensuring that all students benefit from the opportunities provided, regardless of their background or the school they attend.
They’ll be connecting with the elderly through their Cake & Cabaret series and offering inclusive performing arts projects through Mavericks. There are many more highlights within ‘ArtHouse Jersey: A taste of 2021’ and there will likely be further additions to the overall programme throughout the year.
Director of ArtHouse Jersey Tom Dingle said “We’re extremely proud of this programme overview and the level of ambition it demonstrates, particularly given the ongoing uncertainty for us all. In Skipton Big Ideas we will be delivering an exhibition on a scale larger than the Island has ever seen, posing some of the most important questions we face as a society in an ever changing world. The appointment of our new Community Producer will allow us to penetrate those lesser heard people within our community more than ever, and our continued work with valued artists from across the Island continues to go from strength to strength into 2021. We’re also commissioning and supporting the creation of art in entirely accessible formats, though our ArtHouse Jersey Presents platform and our Roaming Soundtrack music project with Rob Da Bank. In short there really is something for everyone. We look forward to the hard work and fun that will go into expertly delivering it for the people of Jersey.”
