ArtHouse Jersey is delighted to announce the upcoming Sound Channels Performances due to take place at ArtHouse Jersey at Capital House across the evenings of Friday 2 and Saturday 3 June, 7.30pm start each night. The unique performances have come together as a result of the ‘Sound Channels Residency’, an initiative by the Moving Arts Collective that is bringing together five musicians from diverse musical and cultural backgrounds to collaborate and create brand new music that responds to the landscape of Jersey.
Musicians include Esther Rose Parkes (singer-songwriter, based in Jersey), ‘OK BILBO Trio’ (Tom Schmidely - Guitar, Marin De Nattes - Bass Guitar, Léo Rodier - Drums based in France), and Omid Amiri (Saxophone, based in UK) whose musical background spans Funk, Fusion, Afrobeat, Free-Jazz, Groove, and Folk. Tickets for the public performances are available via ArtHouse Jersey’s Eventbrite page and cost £10 + booking fee.
Led by producer Aras Amiri, the aim of this project is to celebrate the power of music as an international language by facilitating collaborations and exchanges between Jersey and international musicians. She says the depth and particular voice of a place which is the character of Esther Rose Parkes meets the colours and diversity of sounds and music traditions. That it is the richness and energy of such diversity that music can express most eloquently. Sound Channel Residency aims to celebrate this, all through the lens of Jersey as its subject.
As well as the public performances at ArtHouse Jersey at Capital House there will be two outreach performances at HM La Moye Prison in collaboration with the prison's education department.
Producer Aras Amiri said “I am delighted that this music exchange is happening, thanks to ArtHouse Jersey that made this possible. Music has the magic of connecting, beyond languages and borders. It keeps the cultural history and gives a beat to places. Music is always a response - to a place, to others and to experiences - and this is what we want to celebrate the joy of, with both the audiences at Capital House and in HM La Moye prison.
This is one of the Moving Arts Collective projects, which aims to create more collaborations and exchanges between Jersey and international artists. I enjoy art when it is open to diversity and the unknown and hope the audience does too, especially the young audience who might continue a path in arts.“
