The Face of Liberation

As part of Jersey's official celebrations of Liberation 75, ArtHouse Jersey launched 'The Face of Liberation' earlier this month.

As a central part of the official Liberation 75 celebrations, ArtHouse Jersey launched ‘The Face of Liberation’ on 9 January. Artist Helen Marshall of The People’s Picture has been commissioned to deliver the  artwork, which will be one of the most ambitious pieces of community art the Island has seen.This project will be one of the most ambitious pieces of participatory art Jersey has seen. We are asking Islander's to submit photos from the past and present along with a description of what freedom means to them. So far the response to the project has been overwhelming, with great coverage from our media partner Jersey Evening Post and a live submission from Jess Dunsdon and James Webster, presenters at Channel ITV news.The photos submitted for ‘The Face of Liberation’ will form a large photo mosaic featuring the faces of Jersey inhabitants, past and present, covering over 1,000 square feet of wall space in St Helier. Images from Jersey Archive are also being submitted so that faces of those who were here during the Occupation are represented alongside the faces of contemporary Islanders We are also inviting people to reflect on the themes and questions that Liberation might raise.We want as many islanders as possible to take part, so please submit your photo here before 15th March and please spread the word to family, friends and colleagues.
