ArtHouse Jersey's Live at the Barracks is back for 2022!

INTIMATE EVENINGS OF MUSIC COMEDY & FILM

KICK OFF IN JULY WITH A SONGWRITERS SOCIETY SPECIAL

Tickets available via ArtHouse Jersey’s Eventbrite

ArtHouse Jersey is delighted to announce the return of their Live at the Barracks series this month with four separate music, comedy and film events taking place at the arts charity’s Greve de Lecq Barracks HQ throughout the summer.

Kicking things off on Thursday 21 & Friday 22 July (7.30pm start) are the Songwriters Society, featuring musicians Rick Jones, Phoebe Over, Axon Bower, Hamish Brodie and Jimi Shark. Subsequent events are film nights with Cinestef on Thursday 25 & Friday 26 August, a performance from David Gaffney & his full band on Friday 23 & Saturday 24 September and last but not least stand-up comedy with Christian Jegard. The suggested ticket prices for all of these events is £15 although, given the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, ArtHouse Jersey will once again be offering a pay-what-you-can option for those who might struggle to meet the cost.

Songwriters Society is a collective that supports and showcases original music, poetry and art in Jersey. Their showcase evenings at the Barracks in July will both feature live sets from the following performers.

Rick Jones

Rick’s first performance with, or hiding behind, an acoustic guitar was nearly four decades ago when he played and sang Country Roads to his Year 3 classmates in junior school. A life-long musical journey that took him through performing with metal bands, Welsh male voice choirs, at folk clubs and,  at one point, around the ‘Red Dirt’ underground country music scene in the Southern States of the USA, has left Rick with a songwriting style that is none of those things and all of them at the same time.

Phoebe Over

Jersey-based singer-songwriter Phoebe Over has rightfully earned a reputation as one of the Island’s brightest new musical talents in recent years. Her acoustic-led expressions of teen angst and emotional vulnerability take inspiration from the likes of Lily Allen, Jorja Smith and Billie Eilish. The stories she shares through her music have that down-to-earth, real-life quality that makes her music instantly relatable to her growing number of fans.

Axon Bower

With a natural draw to raw and thought-provoking singer/songwriters’ such as Jack White, Jamie T, Jeff Buckley and Mac De Marco, David Keenan, A.K.A. Axon Bower’s sound is far from static. His sound flows from indie-rock to funk between melodic intricacies and feel-good grooves sat in hook-heavy tracks. Having released three of the five tracks from his EP, 2022 is sure to see Axon Bower rocket.

Hamish Brodie

Hamish Brodie is a songwriter from Jersey who produces his own music. Hamish draws from a diverse range of sounds and genres including pop, electronic and hip hop. He will be progressing his music career at the London BRIT School this September. We look forward to hosting and supporting Hamish as an exciting emerging artist at the Barracks this July.

Jimi Shark

Jimi Shark’s music is a soulful blend of country and folk, his uniquely sincere and emotive voice carries his impassioned lyrics of love and loss. With a vocal range that can feel intimate as well as stadium size. His music expertly leads you on a journey, crafting narratives and characters that weave through his intricate melodies.

Director of ArtHouse Jersey, Tom Dingle, said ‘It’s fantastic to welcome Live at the Barracks back to ArtHouse Jersey’s HQ for another season. A legacy of the pandemic, these events were born as a result of wishing to offer artists and audiences alike a gentle and intimate experience set within the atmosphere of this historic venue. The Barracks are all about developing work and it's our pleasure to welcome performers at various stages in their creative journeys to share in a supportive environment such as this. We also welcome the addition of film nights which are sure to offer a unique and memorable experience for movie lovers too.

Tickets for Live at the Barracks with Songwriters Society (and the rest of the series’ events) are now available to purchase via ArtHouse Jersey’s Eventbrite page which is easily accessible via the homepage of www.arthousejersey.je. Further details about the subsequent music, film and comedy nights will be announced soon.
