ArtHouse Jersey’s presents ‘Roaming Soundtrack’ - a magical audio-visual adventure, curated by Rob da Bank

Today ArtHouse Jersey has announced ‘Roaming Soundtrack’, an audio-visual art project expertly curated by the eclectic purveyor of outstanding music, founder of Bestival and Camp Bestival & Worldwide FM’s DJ, Rob da Bank.

Officially launching on Monday 29 March 2021, ArtHouse Jersey will be inviting you to enjoy Jersey’s local landscape by venturing to selected locations in the great outdoors whilst listening to music that has been expertly paired to each spot. Rob da Bank was invited by ArtHouse Jersey to commission seven renowned music acts to produce seven pieces of bespoke music in direct response to a variety of specially chosen locations across the Island of Jersey, all of which have been photographed by skilled local photographers.ArtHouse Jersey can confirm that the participating music acts will include electronic music stars Groove Armada and musician, producer & composer Nitin Sawhney CBE.

People are invited to visit seven different locations where they can find a listening post with a QR code that will bring the related piece of music directly into their ears, enabling participants to experience this bespoke music commission in-situ. Every time we visit an outdoor space, the weather is different, the atmosphere is different, our moods are different, therefore each person's experience is unique. This is a theme ArtHouse Jersey will be inviting Islanders and visitors to consider when the project goes live.

Roaming Soundtrack also celebrates the arrival of British Summer Time and the extra light at the end of our day, encouraging us to get outside and enjoy nature even more.Three local photographers have been announced so far Will Lakeman capturing Plemont, Danny Evans Faldouet dolmen and Andrew Cummings the North Coast on a starry night.

The other local locations include Seymour Tower, Plemont, Crack Ankle Lane, Grosnez Castle and St Ouen’s Bay at sunset. ArtHouse Jersey also announced two internationally renowned music acts today; Groove Armada and Nitin Sawhney CBE.

Since debuting in 1997, Groove Armada have proven to be one of the most influential forces in dance music. They’ve demonstrated that it’s possible to bravely explore a multitude of sounds while achieving critical and commercial success. It’s a trait that’s apparent within a selection of their best loved songs. From the dancehall dub of ‘Superstylin’’ to the crossover pop of ‘Song 4 Mutya (Out of Control)’ and from the dancefloor-igniting ‘I See You Baby’ to the woozy sunset vibes of ‘At The River’, Groove Armada have consistently and uncompromisingly followed their own vision.

Nitin Sawhney CBE recipient of the Ivor Novello 2017 Lifetime Achievement award, is one the most distinctive and versatile musical voices around today. Sawhney has recorded multiple albums, film soundtracks and compilations, encompassing over 60 film and TV scores and is established as a world-class producer, songwriter, touring artist, BBC Radio 2 and club DJ, multi-instrumentalist, theatrical, dance, video game and orchestral composer and cultural/ political commentator. He holds 6 honorary doctorates along with 2 fellowships and works as Ambassador for/sits on the board of multiple charities. He has received over 20 major national and international awards for his work and is a member of the academy of motion picture sciences (Oscars), BAFTA and the US recording academy (Grammys).Sawhney is Chair of the PRS Foundation, the UK’s funding body for new music and talent development. His new album called ‘Immigrants’ for Sony Masterworks is released in March 2021. Sawhney’s keen interest in science and maths has led toappearances with Brian Cox for the Infinite Monkey Cage, with Chris Packham for a natural history documentary, and various TEDx talks about music, physics and maths.

Curator of Roaming Soundtrack, Rob Da Bank said “To have this project to work on during lockdown on the Isle of Wight was a godsend! The photos of Jersey are truly iconic and it was a pleasure to dream up musicians and composers to match up to the beautiful images. I think it's fair to say we are over the moon with the music we’ve been given by some incredible artists. I cannot wait to stand at these locations and listen to them myself!”.

Director of ArtHouse Jersey, Tom Dingle said “I think that Jersey people are all too aware of how lucky we are to live here. This project celebrates our unique natural environment and gives people a further incentive to get out and explore through the tracks the stunning imagery captured by our brilliant local photographers.Internationally renowned artists have thought carefully about these special places and have crafted music with the specific landscape in mind.
