‘Faithful and Free’ by Charles Mauleverer (commissioned by The States of Jersey for Liberation 75)

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the the island’s Liberation, Jersey composer Charles Mauleverer was asked to write a new piece, performed by the Musical Originals, with a hand-written manuscript engraved on sumptuous images of Jersey by local artists to be given to the royal family. Instead, due to pandemic restrictions, the singers and players all recorded separately to produce this film version of the piece from lockdown.

The words are newly set from a libretto written and partly hidden from the occupying forces during the Occupation, passionately evoking the kinship between mainland Britain and Jersey, and what it means to be free.
