CENTRAL MARKET RESIDENCY
In partnership with the Creative Island Partnership and the St Helier Central Markets, ArtHouse Jersey invites proposals for a Jersey-based artist (or collective of artists) to take up a studio residency in the Central Markets for a period of approximately 12 weeks between January - April 2025.
The residency will culminate in the creation and installation of a new artwork (of any artform, though with a strong visual art component) for the Central Market of a temporary or semi-permanent duration. The specific themes or content of the artwork are open - and may for example reflect the living history of the site, its current use by Jersey’s diverse communities as well as more speculative projections that look towards the future.
The residency includes exclusive use of a large unit in the Beresford Street Fish Market for a period of 12 weeks between January - April 2025. This temporary artist(s)’ studio should be open at least 4 days a week (during the Fish Market’s regular opening hours) for the public to view the artistic process towards the making of the installed artwork.
The artwork to be displayed in the Central Market should be created during the period of the residency. The specific installation requirements and location of the artwork in the Market will be discussed with ArtHouse Jersey and the Central Markets during the period of the residency as the project takes shape.
The residency is a funded opportunity and will cover the following costs:
Artist fee: a total of £6,000 to include 12 week residency and the installation period/presentation of the created artwork
A materials budget of up to £2,500 for materials required in the making and installation of the artwork
ArtHouse Jersey will support the artist through the making and installation process, including to support communications and publicity as appropriate for the selected project.
How to apply:
Applications can be made by completing the online form which requests the following information:
A short outline of the artist(s)’ interest in the project and a proposed working process that will shape the final artwork to be created
Artists CV / biography
Links or documentation to previous projects by the artist/s that may be useful for the panel’s consideration
The closing date for proposals is 23.59 Sun 1 December 2024.
We particularly welcome applications from artist(s) that are less well represented in Jersey cultural projects, for example artists or creatives with diverse lived experiences including those from different ethnic groups or disabled artists.
